are Torah Tidbits-style riddles on Parshat HaShavua (sometimes on the calendar). They are found in the hard-copy of TT scattered throughout, usually at the bottom of different columns. In the electronic versions of TT, they are found all together at the end of the ParshaPix-TTriddles section. The best solution set submitted each week (there isn’t always a best) wins a double prize a CD from Noam Productions and/or a gift (game, puzzle, book, etc.) from Big Deal
Previous (Vayeira) TTriddles:
 Return to Vayeira
Once again, using the police ten- codes… 10-19 means “Return to”.
The other diet Coke of the turtles in the room
And this one is our traditional “how many mitzvot in how many p’sukim of the sedra TTriddle. The other diet coke is Zero - there are no mitzvot counted from Vayeira. The turtles are HAZAVIM = 5+90+2+10+40 = 147 (the number of p’sukim in the sedra) and “the room” is HACHEDER = 5+8 +4+200 = 217, gimatriya of Vayeira.
 Avraham and Refa’el
Avraham Avinu and the angel Refa’el both saved Lot - the former from the battle of the four kings against the five kings and the latter from the destruction of S’dom.
 ParshaPix - partial
As most regular TTreaders will have noticed, the ParshaPix explanations have been among the early casualties of our space problem. We try to get them in when we can. Recently, we have included on the website a link to a PDF file with the explanations. Last week, because of FTP problems, the PPexplanations didn’t make it anywhere. For those who want the harder, more obsure, and newer pictographs in the Vayeira PP explained, here they are (some of them, at least)...
Upper-right photo of Jeffrey Archer for Yishma’el’s future avocation as a ROVEH KASHAT, an archer.
Below him is a photo of Reuma Schwartz Weizman, wife of the 7th president of Israel, the late Ezer Weizman. Her name occurs at the end of the sedra.
To her left is a cardiac defibrillator, used to achieve similar results to those of Elisha HaNavi at the end of the haftara.
Lincoln penny dated 1912 (hard to see without enlarging the picture). It stands for V’AVRAHAM BEN M’AT SHANA…
50 mc and a picture of the actor who played the shark-hunter Quint in Jaws. 50 = L in Roman numerals. mc= E from Einstein’s famous equation. The actor is the late Robert Shaw. Put ‘em together to make L E Shaw, as in the prophet ELISHA from the haftara.
Next to Shaw are two players from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim team, representing the two angels who went to S’dom.
And for the pi’ce d’r’sistance: Hagrid and the Jolly Green Giant are GIANTS. The broom and dust pan is for SWEEP. Left to right are Tigger, the Exxon tiger, the Frosted Flakes tiger, and Hobbes, all of whom are TIGERS (who swept the Yankees). Several readers expected last week’s front page colors to be orange and black in honor of the Giants victory in the World Series. Alas, the date that issue 1019 “hit the stands” was October 31st and black and orange might have been misconstrued. Hence the choice of this week’s colors.
Rabbi Atik z"l used to ask…
AYEI - Where is/are? About whom/what is this question asked in the sedra?
The angels ask Avraham where Sara is. AYEI SARA ISHTECHA. The people of S’dom ask Lot about the people he took in to his home. Yitzchak asks Avraham about the animal for the offering.
What happens in Sefer B’reishit on the 3rd day, BAYOM HASH’LISHI?
AKEIDAT YITZCHAK occurs on the third day of the journey to Har HaMoriah. Lavan finds out the Yaakov and family have left - on the third day. Shimon and Levi attack the people of Sh’chem on the third day following their circumcision. Par’o has his birthday party on the third day following the dreams of the Wine Steward and the Baker. Yosef releases his brothers from jail on the third day…
Take a prime number and multiply it by 2 and add 1. If you get another prime, then the bigger number is called a Safe Prime and the smaller number is a Sophie Germain Prime. 1019 is prime. Subtract 1 and divide by 2 and you get 509, which is prime. This makes 1019 a safe prime. Now take 1019 and multiply by 2 and add 1. You get 2039, which is prime. That makes 1019 a Sophie Germain Prime. Now take 1019 and rotate it 180 degrees You get 6101, which is also prime. Now you know!
This week’s TTriddles:
 Where is Chayei Sara located?
-273.1C of the days in all the nights
Radar is useful. That sentence starts with a palindrome. What else does?
Rabbi Atik z"l used to ask…
For CHAYEI SARA:
Sara lived 127 years. Where else does that number appear?
Avraham pays 400 silver shekels to Efron. Where else does 400 show up in the Torah (not as part of another number)?
