SUMMARY:An Architectural Tour of Haifa
DESCRIPTION:An Architectural Tour of Some Special Sites\nin and around the
City of Haifa\nLed by Ron Traub\nArchitect and Tour Guide\n\nOn Wednesday\
 , June 5th 2013\n\nFrom 8:00 A.M. to 5 P.M. approx.\nARCHITECTURE – A ph
ysical manifestation of the prevailing times\nTHE COPPER HOUSE\nIs an exam
ple of prefabricated housing which first made its appearance during the Ma
ndate Period. All parts of the structure were assembled in a factory\, tra
nsported to the site and reassembled on site. Assembly on site could take
as little as one day\, &amp\; it was hoped that this could solve the housi
ng shortage which was prevalent at the time.\nTHE SAIL TOWER\nIs defined a
s High-Tech Architecture.  Proponents of this style claim that by using a
ircraft technology\, defects in earlier steel &amp\; glass structures coul
d be overcome.\nTHE HAIFA POWER PLANT\nIs the first electrical infrastruct
ure established in Israel. Built in 1935\, it was housed in a building des
igned in the International Style. Characteristic of the International Styl
e is its indifference to location or climate and its rejection of historic
al precedent or the local vernacular style.\nAMOS GITAI ARCHITECTURAL MUSE
UM\nIs housed in the former studio of the late Bauhaus architect - Munio G
itai Weinraub.  His son\,  Amos Gitai Weinraub\, also an architect\,  c
onverted the studio into a museum in honor of his late father and other Ba
uhaus architects who fled Germany with the rise of Nazism. The Bauhaus mov
ement was started by Walter Gropius in Germany who in 1919 perceived an ar
chitectural style free of historicism.\n\nBring your own lunch.\n\nCost: 1
