TECHNOLOGY AND ECOLOGY, THEN AND NOW with Rabbi Alan Haber

The Land of Israel is blessed with many spiritual gifts, but few
natural resources.  From ancient Romans to modern Zionists, the
inhabitants of the land had to find creative solutions to their
problems – but these solutions sometimes caused new problems.  Rulers
built magnificent cities, roads and bridges, and future generations
often paid the price for their extravagance.

On this tour in the area of Mount Carmel, we will explore the
challenge of sustainable development – from the impressive Roman
aqueducts that supplied water to Caesarea, through the Zionist
pioneers who drained the swamps caused by those same aqueducts.  We’ll
also visit the “Hai Bar”, a unique Israeli initiative to repair
environmental damage by restoring wild species that have become
extinct in our area.
